According to the QS World University Rankings for 2015 Karolinska Institute in Sweden is the best dental school in the world followed by the University of Hong Kong. Dr. Neal. R. Emad, a Maryland dentist, hails Sweden as the nation with the most dentist schools in the top ten globally.
University of Gothenburg in Sweden stands at number three, according to Dr. Emad, while the University of Michigan comes in at number four. Ku Leuven in Belgium is fifth best school in the world, while Tokyo Medical and Dental school comes at number six. Kings College in the UK is seventh, while the University of Otago comes in at number eight. Harvard University takes the ninth position, while the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, rounds up the top 10.
U.S. & Canada
The United States still dominates the global dental school list with 15 of the top 50 dental schools. Besides having 3 schools in top ten, it also has UCLA (37) globally, New York University (24), Columbia University (14) and Boston University (30). Canada has two prestigious universities in the University of British Columbia and University of Toronto.
Europe
Sweden has two schools in the top ten global rankings, including the best in the world (Karolinska Institute) followed by University of Gothenburg (3). Malmo University is also a top global Swedish University. The U.K., however, beats Sweden by having five highly ranked dental schools in the world. University College of London, which is fifth in world rankings, University of Manchester (30), New Castle University (127), and University of Birmingham (64).
Scandinavia has six ranked dental schools with Finland, Denmark and Switzerland contributing 2 each. The University of Copenhagen (45) Aarhus University (96), University of Helsinki (67) and University of Oulu (259) as well as University of Zurich (57) and University of Bern (145) make the list. Spain, Germany, Netherlands and Belgium have one entrant each. The Spanish Universidad Complutense de Madrid (212), Netherland’s Radboud University Nijmegen (156), and the Germans contribute Universität Freiburg (121).

Brazil tops the Latin American contributors with 3 entries to the global dental school ranking list. These are: Universidade de São Paulo (132), Universidade Estadual de Campinas (206) and Universidade Estadual Paulista “Julio de Mesquita Filho”.

China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore have one entrant each. Peking University in China (28), National University of Singapore (22) and National Taiwan University (76) dominate the Asian region. Japan has two and South Korea claims three. Japan boasts Tokyo Medical and Dental University (6), Osaka University (55), while South Korea has Seoul National University (SNU) (31) and Yonsei University (106).
Australia & New Zealand
Australia has three dental schools ranked globally: University of Melbourne (33), University of Adelaide (100) and University of Sydney at (37). New Zealand has University of Otago (8).
